What is Functional Medicine
Functional Medicine is a systems biology–based approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease. Each symptom or differential diagnosis may be one of many contributing to an individual’s illness. Functional medicine seeks to answer the question “why are you ill?” so you can receive personalized, effective care based on your needs.
As Functional Medicine providers, we will spend time listening to you and gathering your medical history. We use this information to identify the root causes of illness, including triggers such as poor nutrition, stress, toxins, allergens, gut dysfunction, and genetics. Identifying the triggers helps us to customize a healthy living plan for you. Your plan will address many aspects of your life including nutrition, movement, sleep, and mental and emotional stressors.

Gut Diagnostics
We are happy to be able to offer patients the opportunity to learn about their gut health with GI Effects (gastrointestinal testing) through Genova Diagnostics. This is one of the tools we use to evaluate your gut microbiome (the bacteria living in your gut) and it helps direct next steps in patient care. Another common test we order from Genova is NutraEval. This is a blood and urine test that evaluates over 125 biomarkers and asses the body’s functional need for 40 antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, amino acids, digestive support, and other select nutrients. Personalized recommendations for nutrients are determined by using an algorithm based on the patient’s test findings.

We have partnered with Pure Encapsulations and Nordic Naturals and we are excited to offer the highest quality supplements at competitive prices. Functional Medicine places high value on carefully selecting the most beneficial supplements and only supplementing with what the patient needs to help improve their health. Both Stephanie and Amber have done extensive research on supplements, and many of the lab workups Stephanie orders provide direct information about nutrient deficiencies, so Stephanie is able to recommend the supplements you need based on data and lab values.
Cardiac Wellness
We partner with Quest to order detailed tests such as the cardiac panel that tells us more information about specific findings including how small and large your cholesterol particles are and what that means for your overall health.
